PRF Injections

Harness the Power of Your Body’s Own Healing Properties for Skin & Hair Rejuvenaton!

The secret to radiant skin and fuller, healthier hair is much closer than you think – it actually lies in your blood. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) can hold the key to natural skin and hair rejuvenation. By applying concentrated solutions of this powerful blood by-product to the skin and scalp, magical things can happen. It’s all due to the body’s natural healing/regenerative process. We’re proud to offer this revolutionary treatment option at Derm Aesthetics of Northern Kentucky.

What is PRF?

PRF is a derivative of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), but it offers an even more advanced platelet concentrate treatment that harnesses the potency of your own white blood cells, growth factors, and fibrin to rejuvenate your skin or stimulate hair growth. In a sense, PRF is the next generation of PRP. As a completely natural concentrate from your blood, it works in harmony with your body to produce remarkable aesthetic results with very little risk of adverse reaction.

How does PRF work?

The platelets that are within the plasma component of your blood contain growth factors, which are naturally wired to stimulate the skin’s tissue repair as well as boost collagen and elastin production. When injected into a targeted area, these skin- and hair-reviving substances go to work in triggering the body’s own regenerative properties. PRF is obtained through a simple in-office blood draw (typically from the arm). Your blood is then placed in the centrifuge without an anticoagulant in the tube, which allows the formation of a spongy, gel-like substance rich in platelets, stem cells, growth factors and fibrin that are then ready to be harvested and injected.

What are the benefits of PRF treatments?

The regenerative properties of PRF treatments can offer a slew of beautiful benefits, which may include:

  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Increased hair growth
  • Diminished fine lines and wrinkles
  • Boost in natural collagen and elastin
  • Decreased pore sizes
  • Long-lasting results
  • And much more!

What areas can be treated with PRF injections?

Since PRF is naturally derived from your own body and carries very little risk of adverse reaction, treatment can be quite versatile and used in a number of areas, including:

  • Scalp
  • Skin around the eyes
  • Face
  • Neck
  • Jaw line
  • Hands
  • Décolletage
  • And more!

What’s the difference between PRP and PRF?

While there are similarities between PRP and PRF, there are a few differences that can contribute to PRF being somewhat superior. PRP requires more blood to be drawn and is spun in the centrifuge at a higher speed, which effectively causes all the heavier cells in the blood (such as white blood cells and stem cells) to collect in the bottom of the test tube. The lighter platelets and plasma then collect in the top of the tube. PRF is spun at a lower speed so the layers of blood do not separate out as distinctly as with PRP. This allows some white blood cells and stem cells to remain within the platelet layer and be collected for treatment. There are generally more healing factors within PRF as compared to PRP, but both have the potential to create amazing results.

Are there any side effects from PRF injections?

While there’s almost no risk of allergic reaction, you’ll likely have some slight redness or mild swelling/bruising at the injection sites for a couple days. These injections do not require any downtime, so you can resume your normal activities immediately following your treatment.

What results can I expect from PRF injections?

Individual results will vary based on a number of factors, including your overall skin health, the number of treatments needed, and the size of the treatment area. In many cases, patients start to see visible improvements around six weeks after their initial treatment, with long-term effects such as enhanced skin quality, elasticity, and tone improvement around three months post-treatment. The number of treatments required for best results depends on the degree of your individual skin or hair concerns. The majority of patients experience improvement after one to four treatments, but four to six treatments may be needed to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Whatever the case may be, we’ll thoroughly evaluate your needs and tailor a treatment plan just for you.
