Sclerotherapy in Florence, KY

Say Goodbye To Spider Veins With Sclerotherapy.

Spider veins are a concern for millions of people. Though most cases are only a cosmetic issue and involve no symptoms, for some people, they can cause pain and discomfort or even indicate an underlying circulatory problem. Whether cosmetic or a cause for health concerns, you don’t have to live with spider veins. Sclerotherapy is considered the treatment of choice in Northern Kentucky for treating these conditions.

Sclerotherapy

How does sclerotherapy work?

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure involving a special solution injected with a fine needle directly into the vein. This solution causes the vein to scar and collapse, forcing the blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is eventually reabsorbed into surrounding tissue and becomes unnoticeable.

Am I a candidate for sclerotherapy?

Spider veins can occur for a number of reasons, including heredity, hormones, obesity, frequent standing, or a history of blood clots. People who benefit most from Sclerotherapy generally have noticeable spider veins in their legs, thighs, or ankles, are typically between the ages of 30 and 60, and don’t have a history of blood clotting issues.

How long do sclerotherapy treatments take?

At Derm Aesthetics of Northern Kentucky, a typical treatment session consists of a series of microinjections that takes about 30 minutes to administer. If you have several veins that need to be treated, the procedure may take a bit longer. The appointment is still generally less than an hour, however.

Do sclerotherapy injections hurt?

There is slight stinging associated with the injections and a mild burning sensation that lasts a few seconds. Most patients claim the procedure is much less painful than what they originally anticipated. Therefore, local anesthesia is most often not necessary.

Will I need any downtime after sclerotherapy treatment?

You’ll be able to walk around soon after your procedure, as moving your legs is important to prevent any blood clots from forming. The injection site will appear slightly bruised and swollen for a few days, but most patients resume normal activities the same day as treatment (some take up to two days before returning to daily activities). We ask that you not participate in any strenuous activity for up to two weeks. Also, we recommend you wear compression stockings or bandages to maintain compression on the treated veins for up to two weeks.

How long before I see results with sclerotherapy?

After your sclerotherapy procedure, the treated veins usually fade within a few weeks. For some people, it may take a month or more to see the full results. Furthermore, several sclerotherapy treatments may be needed depending on the size of the veins.
